What Movies taught me about Blogging

Movies are an interesting part of ones life. Personally I love to watch movies of various genres. Being a Blogger my inner subconscious about learning new things acts while I am watching movies. This has led to a series of facts and ideas we can utilise while blogging. Here are those.

1. James Cameron’s Avatar (2009) –

Lesson - Wait for the right time.
Everyone must have seen James Cameron’s Avatar. But did you know that this movie was actually decided a lot before. James was all done with 80 pages of scriptment for this Project in the year 1995. The Movie was announced in 1996. But James did the right decision of waiting for a while. He realised that the technology required for making a perfect movie wasn’t actually present at that time. Thus in 2009 the Movie was released with possibly the best on-screen animations and VFX.

Lesson for Blogger – You might be thinking of a new project or simply starting away with a little idea. Here you must ask yourself a very important question. Is this the right time and situation to start away with these Projects.

For e.g. if you started a blog about cricket right at the time when the World Cup or equivalent comes then you are at a success. However if you start it when there is nothing really going on then it’s very much likely that you’ll end up having a very less audience.

2. Exhibit A (2007)

Lesson – Resources don’t really matter when the Story is great.
Exhibit A is a thriller horror movie. This Movie was shot in just 18 days. This too with a minimal crew and the actors were doing their own Camera Work. Even with so less resources the Movie capped a lot of attention and grabbed a great collection at the Box Office.

Lesson for Blogger – Blogging is about sharing ideas and facts. People come to your blog to read your articles. It doesn’t matter if you have a cheap or an expensive hosting here or the fact that you have a non-paid domain. What matters, is your content.

E.g. – The blog colormekatie.blogspot.com is a personal blog by Katie Sokoler. It is actually one of the best Blogger blogs. The funny thing which can be assumed is that making of this blog didn’t need any kind of money. No hosting (Blogger needs no hosting) and no paid domain.

3. Gandhi (1982)

Lesson – Dedication and a Definite Aim
Gandhi (1982) was a historical biography of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Ben Kingsley was given role of Gandhi. Ben was supposed to read the script given by the director to understand his role. But Ben not only read the script but also read the Books regarding Gandhi. He met History teachers and understood more about Gandhi. He even talked with an Indian accent for making it correct during the movie. This ultimately resulted into a very successful movie. His role was very much appreciated and he received an Oscar for Best Actor.

Lesson for Bloggers – Dedication can do some wonderful things. You might think that this is just a quote. But trust me, each and every successful blogger out there has a great dedication to his/her blog. I have asked a few Pro-bloggers about how much time they need for blogging. The average was 6 – 7 hours. Don’t ignore this fact. Keep on sharpening the blade.

4. The Dark Knight

Lesson – If you are good at anything, never do something for free
In the Movie the villain ‘The Joker’ played by Heath Ledger gives us a very important piece of advice. He says, “If you are good at something, never do it for free.” This fact is something worth looking into.

Lesson for Bloggers – In your entire blogging career, you might have understood some important tactics in SEO, or traffic generation. These are some of those things which you shouldn’t hide. You need to provide those same tips and tricks to others. But remember, never give them for free. This is your hard work. If you are giving it for free, it means that you don’t really value it.

Pro-Blogging Vs. Monthly Job

Blogging is an interesting term. It has many definitions all over. Being a blogger myself I have interacted with lots of bloggers. One thing which I have seen in most of them is that, they think of Blogging as an income generating hobby.
Well they are not wrong. But not completely correct. Blogging can be a great source of income only when it is done using great efforts and patience.
Here are some points you have to take in account before you think of entering the blogging world as a Job, i.e. as a Pro Blogger.

1. Sharing Knowledge > Generating Income

The word Blog stands for Weblogs. It was first started to share knowledge, ideas, thoughts, etc. Monetizing it wasn't even thought at that time. Only a few people came up with their blogs. What lesson we need to take from here is that Income generating isn't what blogging is all about. Its about sharing knowledge. Its not a valid Job. It will act as one only if you change it into one i.e. Giving what the audience wants. Sharing stuff people will love to read, see and enjoy. Once you do this you will have a successful blog which can be further taken to monetizing.

2. Working anywhere, anytime. Not really.

So you think Blogging is like jotting down things when you are on a hill. Well it doesn't work that way. For making a wholesome post it is necessary to research on the topic. Along with that it requires patience, a lot of it to write meaningful posts. Other than this, images, contexts, videos are needed for an effective approach.

3. No pain, No gain, Period. (Income)

To start blogging is easy. To take it to the top is damn difficult. Income is the sweet fruit you get once your blog gets on the top. But until then, you are simply running an obstacle race with possibly no end. Just Blogging wont be good enough. There are some tactics need to be followed. Like for example SEO, SEM, Social Media Engineering. Once you get a hold of this, then only will you get some reasonable effects. Read 7 NO-NON Sense SEO tips for New Bloggers.

4. No Pension or Retirement planning

Once you start your life as a Pro-Blogger you might need to continue it until you have enough saved for your remaining life. A Job might be able to give you pension. You need to continue blogging or simply opt for a normal Job.

5. Risky

Blogs traffic depends upon various factors. Consider this, Google Panda and Penguin receive a new update. This means threat to your blog. Many times it has happened that the Blog with great traffic has fallen to a depth unimaginable. This could mean serious problems for your Earnings.

This article doesn't criticize Pro-Blogging. It simply states some true facts about it. Nor does it encourage people to consider a Monthly Job instead of it. This was a sincere effort to help people choose their career wisely.
Yahoo Answers has always been a great source of knowledge for us. One can say that it is an expensive service given for free.
Well for bloggers, it is always a priority to spread knowledge and help others. So what a blogger can do here is to reap the benefits of this free service to its fullest. While doing this the blogger is not just helping the random netizens but also himself.

Here are those tips and tricks to get most out of this service in the field of blogging.

1. Keep on answering

Yahoo Answers give you the opportunity to answer 20 questions a day once you get an account with them. Even with such a limitations, you should keep on answering until you hit the main number. The reason behind this is once you get enough points to get to the next level, you are allowed to answer 50 questions. This will make you famous as well as more exposed towards the questioners.

2. Add a link to your blog post if the question is similar to it.

In case the question is about the same thing you wrote before. Write a little, i.e. basic about it first and then show them the link to know more. This way you are getting legit links from the people who actually want to read that article.
Blogger Vs. Wordpress

Introduction
Blogger and Wordpress as you know are the most widely used CMSs for blogging. There have been a lot of controversies on deciding which is better. I personally found this topic quite interesting. I thought about how each platform differs in providing assistance to the user. Here is my opinion about their features. This will be a comparison between the two and not a calculation of positive things.

Setting Up the Blog

Setting-up a blog at blogger is easy then making a coffee. Right after you make an account, you are directed to the page where you can make a new blog. You are just asked to name your blog, give it a link and a template. That's it, you're done and can start posting.
Wordpress Setup is similar to that of Blogger. That's only if you wish to install it on the Wordpress hosting. But if you plan to use Package they made to install on other hosting i.e. from Wordpress.org then beware. Using that is as good as going through an Obstacle Race. You have to first upload all the files to host (Nowadays there is provision of Auto-installer, thanks a lot to the one who made it). Then you need to change the values in 'wp-config.php' so as to establish the blog. Which is kind of irritating and gets on your nerve (It did to me). Later you can post in patience.

Posting

Posting in Blogger is easy and simple. A big and ample space for writing the post and a border full of text options. While in Wordpress you get a page full of options and small space to write. It can be said sophisticated but a compact way of posting.
What can be said here is that people posting on blogger can post quickly whereas Wordpress bloggers post it with a lot of editing making it a delight for the Readers.

Content-Managing

Blogger being made by Google has almost all the option one needs to establish a perfect blog but however it fails miserably when it comes to Content Managing. Blogger simply has no system for this. You cannot access your core files. You can just edit the basic HTML file. You cannot create new folders for your blog. Nor can you access your hosted images and videos on the site. Your uploaded images are uploaded to Picasa where you are given 1 GB image hosting.
Wordpress can be real treat for users. It gives us Content Managing even on a free blog. Now that's what we call love. Moreover it feels so nice that Apart from blogging, it can be used for almost anything. Let's say a Business blog or a Service Info. Could be anything. You can do all that on a Wordpress blog.

SEO

Now here's a very interesting thing. Blogger has few pre-added SEO options. But Wordpress needs you to download them. Blogger has the options kept so easy that even my Grandma could fill those up! Wordpress has plugins for this and doesn't ask you while posting. You need to do it manually. But Wordpress can create a powerful SEO compared to Blogger. However for doing this a set of skills are required. Wordpress has an option where you can edit the layout of the permalinks making them easier to the eye. Blogger included this option a while ago but still it isn't as good as the one Wordpress has. Creating sitemaps is easier in blogger.

Cost

Blogging on Blogger is very cheap compared to Wordpress. Here you are getting a free sub-domain i.e. 'yourblog.blogspot.com' with all the features of blogger. Moreover if you wish to take a new domain, you are given the option to buy it through blogger itself and use it as you want. That too at only 10$. Even if you have bought the domain from somewhere else then its alright as Blogger allows that too. Wordpress too has the option for a subdomain. But if you wish to have a personal domain there then it asks you to pay 18$. And you have to more for other services like CSS editing and hosting. If you go for the Wordpress package for personal hosting then you end up paying more then 5$ per month. Now that's not exactly what a new blogger would do right?

Verdict

I wont be able to determine which is a better blogging interface. But here are some things which I could certainly say.

Who should use blogger ?
1. Newbies who have just started their blogger journey

2. Hobbyists and Enthusiasts who want to share their words with the public

3. Photographers

Who should use Wordpress ?
1. A Pro Blogger - One who is a SEO expert, writes wonderful articles and writes only what the public wants to read.

2. A Team of professionals, like in a Cooking Blog, there should be at least 2 Cooks, 1 Dietician, 1 Doctor, 1 Food Store Owner (optional), 1 Webmaster.

3. A Service Provider E.g. - A person providing cheap SEO for websites, or A Person providing Address cards.

Join a Blogger Network here for more traffic - BlogDash

So did hosting, but here is one service, which provides hosting for free.

Another interesting thing is that the owner and the Webmaster of this site is my friend and he promises that this service will be there for a long time without any interruption. He also states that if needed he will also increase hosting size if one wants more space.

Here are some features of the site -

The hosting service is perfect for a small website. It can satisfy each and everything needed for it. Although if you are planning to shift your existing hosting to this one then make sure that you don't have hits above 2,00,000 per month. As this a new host the up-time might be fragile factor. Leaving this the service is excellent and yields no problems. I myself have used it for my new Project.

Click Here to register with the site - Xchost - SignUp

A custom domain receives more anticipation more than the sub-domains.
I faced the same problem back while I was blogging on a sub-domain. I finally got it that people tend to refer articles on a custom domain rather than on a sub-domain. So the site where I used to post previously www.techwindow.org was used to be techwindowtab.blogspot.com and after the domain transfer, I found it amusing how the web impressions increased.
But it might be the case that you are a casual blogger and instead of buying a domain you need a domain for free. This might solve your SEO problems and moreover try to bring more traffic to your blog.

Get a free .ASIA Domain from here

How is this domain better than the sub-domain ?

Provides better SEO

Attracts more traffic

Easy-to-tell website address

Prestige to have

For Free

So the moral of the story here is that you can get a free .asia domain which will help you in numerable ways.
If you liked this article then please don't forget to drop a 'like' and a rating.

Update - The price has now been increased to 1$.
