Google has been playing with manufacturers every year. The Nexus 5 (2013) was manufactured by LG, the Nexus 6 (2014) was crafted by Motorola, and this year, the successor of 2013 and 2014 Nexus phones, Nexus 5X and 6P are manufactured by LG and Huawei.
The new Nexus 5X is a mid-range device with a 5.2-inch display, while Nexus 6P offers a better and bigger package with a 5.7-inch display. The two phones debut Google’s latest mobile OS, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and boast a crafty design language with a bunch of alluring elements. They do have a lot of similarities, but the real question is, what really makes them different and which one is the better option to go for?
Nexus phones are always known for their charm and performance, and even this time, the new 5X and 6P offer a perfect package for tech-buffs. So, let’s compare them, and mark out their major differences!
Design and Build
If you’re shopping for a phone which looks stunning and gives a great grip, Google Nexus 5X and 6P are the best options to count on. Both handsets look extremely beautiful, but out of these two, Nexus 6P looks slightly better with full-metal body and bulging lip at the back. The metal build and crafty design language of this phone looks far better than the plastic body of Nexus 5X.Nexus 6P is also slightly slimmer than 5X. It tips on the scale at 7.3mm while Nexus 5Xis 7.9mm thick.
The duo launched by Google is available in a rich set of colors, and is enriched with fingerprint scanners and “nexus” logos placed at the same position. Keeping build quality apart, they both looks extremely premium for all angles.
Display Quality
Just like build quality, there are some noticeable differences between the display of LG Nexus 5X and 6P. The plastic-clad Nexus 5X, at the first place, features a 5.2-inch full-HD display with pixel density of 424ppi. It gives decent viewing experience, and produces rich colors and better contrasts in different environments. Its screen-size is slightly bigger than the original Nexus 5 but pixel resolution is still same.
The new Nexus 6P, on the other hand, offers an ideal ecosystem for entertainment with its 5.7-inch quad-HD display. It features a whopping pixel density of 518ppi, and looks much denser than Nexus 5X and the original Nexus 6. It takes full benefit of those extra pixels and appears much sharper than other high-end phones rolling in the market.
Hardware and Performance
The hardware equipped with Nexus 5X includes a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor paired with 2GB of RAM. It packs immense power for non-stop work and play, but loses against the octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor paired with additional one gig RAM at 3GB. Whether you’re playing a high-end game or running multiple apps, both of these phones will deliver top-of-the line performance without any lags or thermal issues.Theyfeature top-tier processors but the Nexus 6P with Snapdragon 810 sits perfectly in the flagship category, and goes against the likes of Galaxy S6, Xperia Z5 and other high-end smartphones.
Software
On the software front, there is no major difference. Nexus 5X and 6P both bring something which no other smartphone has been able to offer, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The improved ecosystem of Android M delivers incredibly smooth and lag-free performance. It brings native support for fingerprint scanning and USB Type-C standard, and ensures minimal memory wastage while running different applications. On whole, stock Android 6.0 interface looks extremely clean, fluid and attractive.
Camera Performance
The camera setup of both phone is also pretty impressive. The main camera of Nexus 5X and 6P features a 12.3-megapixel sensor with dual-LED flash, laser autofocus and 1.55µm pixel size. It delivers decent image quality under different conditions and captures 4k videos at 30 frames per second.
As for the secondary camera, there is a slight difference where Nexus 6P boasts an 8-megapixel shooter while Nexus 5X packs a generous 5-megapixel shooter. They both perform quite well, and capture crisp selfies and 720p videos.
Storage
Neither of the two phones support expansion via micro-SD card. But as far as built-in-memory is concerned, Huawei Nexus 6P offers more options with 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB variants compared to the standard 16GB and 32GB variants of Nexus 5X.The two phones will give you enough space for standard purposes, but you’re heavy users, it’s better to go with 64GB or 128GB variant of Nexus 6P.
Battery Backup
Both Nexus smartphones are backed by non-removable batteries. The Nexus 5X packs a bigger battery than the original Nexus 5 at 2700mAh, while the Nexus 6P houses a humongous 3,450mAh battery. Both promise sufficient backup for an entire day, but with enhanced capacity, you can definitely expect few hours more from Nexus 6P.The two phones also offer support for USB Type-C reversible connecter and allow users to plug the cable either way.
Price
As for pricing, the base models of Nexus 5X and 6P will start at Rs. 30,900 and Rs. 39,900. Out of the two phones, Nexus 6P will be more expensive, but still, it looks like a decent deal against leading flagships. The higher price tag of 6P is clearly justified from its improved display, stunning build quality and Android 6.0. But for Nexus 5X with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM, price tag of Rs. 30,900 is not justifiable.
Final Verdict
Apart from brand name and screen size, there are many more differences between Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. The duo launched by Google fits perfectly in different segments of the market. The LG-made Nexus offers mediocre specs but is slightly expensive, while the Huawei-made Nexus offers top-of-the line specs and premium build quality at just the right price tag. So, if pricing is not an issue, we suggest Nexus 6P asa better option to go for.The metal-built device looks more premium, and offers a whole lot more than what comes with the plastic clad LG Nexus 5X.
